Bird window strikes and collisions

Help
Remember:
A bird who does not fly away from an approaching human is usually injured.

It's common, unfortunately, for songbirds to hit our windows and reflective surfaces, especially during migration when they're flying through new territory.

If you have found a stunned bird who can't fly, pick it up and put it in a cardboard box with air holes, and leave it in a quiet place for at least an hour.

Usually that's enough time for them to recover from the headache, and when you open the box they may fly right out. Keeping them in the dark and quiet gives them a chance to recover away from cats or other predators.

If they don't recover, they may need a wildlife rehabilitation center.

Cardboard Pet Carriers can be ordered by the case and kept in your garage for emergencies. These are often excellent for transporting raptors.
Always keep a recovering bird in a dark, quiet place.
